The Jolly Big Business Boost is a competition supported and organised by Market Place. It offers young businesses the unique opportunity to expose their products to over 1 million visitors at the award-winning Market, FREE of charge.
To date every winning business has gone on to continue trading and their business has received that all-important cash injection that is vital to success in the early stages of growth.
The competition is open to businesses or sole traders operating for at least 6 months but for no more 24 months selling quality products (in the categories listed below) and deemed by our judging panel: Martina Connolly (CEO of Belfast One), Andy Pidgen (Market Manager) and Christine McCaughey (Owner of Bathe Botanicals and Winner of the JBBB 2023), to be of interest to visitors at the Belfast Christmas Market.
Winners will receive
- A FREE chalet at the Belfast Christmas Market from 16 Nov–22 Dec 2024
- Inclusion in Christmas Market related PR activity
- Business mentoring in advance of the market opening
Rules for entrants
Applications must be submitted (by email) no later than 12noon, 22nd August 2024
Entries must include
A completed application form
A 2-minute video telling us about you, your business and your products and why they would be a good addition to the Belfast Christmas Market offer. Videos can be recorded on phones but must be supplied as an MP4 file no bigger than 10MB
All applicants must be aged 18 years or over
The business / sole trader must not be currently registered to trade as part of the Belfast Christmas Market
The business/ sole trader must have been trading or registered for no less than six months but for more than 24 months
Eligible Product Categories: Art / Craft, Fashion, Vegan and Vegetarian Food (excludes fast food, confectionery or drinks), Handmade Toys or Festive themed products
Product samples cannot be included as part of the application
The business must be able to trade for the full opening hours of the Belfast Christmas Market: 16 November – 22 December 2024
The winner is responsible for branding and dressing their chalet in conjunction with the Christmas Market guidelines
Canvassing will result in disqualification

The winning business will be notified on the 23rd August 2024
The winning business must be available for a PR opportunity in September
The winning business must be able to begin trading from 12 noon on 16 November 2024 – 22 December 2024 during the following hours *: Mon – Wed: 10am – 8pm / Thurs – Sat: 10pm – 10pm / Sunday: 1pm – 6pm
