Key Deliverables

In June 2017 NABMA Market Place (NMP) were appointed by Bassetlaw District Council to provide an appraisal on the current market offers in Retford and Worksop with the aim of ensuring their future success.

Project Description

Our consultants conducted several site visits, desktop reviews and consulted with key stakeholders. Market finances and rental rates were collated and analysed. Current retail trends and local competitors considered. The market layouts, marketing activities and the use of social media examined.

The following project objectives were met:

• Review the markets operations in the two towns
• Recommend the best use of market squares on non-market days
• Conduct a time and motion study of the markets
• Recommend improvement for the market operations and layouts
• Benchmark Bassetlaw markets performance against local and national trends
• Provide a review of the present offer and mix of traders and provide an overview of its’ effectiveness as a footfall attractor
• Horizon scan to look at future market trends and position the markets to be future-resilient
• Produce a marketing plan to promote the markets

Project Outcomes

A full detailed report was presented to Bassetlaw Council. The report was received favourably, and the Council are moving forwards with recommendations.
